Although with 3.5” external hard drives there is usually need for an external power supply, and thus portability is a little hampered, the performance gains are quite worth it. The drive comes enclosed in a brushed metal body, and can be kept flat on a surface, or can be kept upright to save some space. It is quite small in size, despite being based on a 3.5” HDD, with dimension of (175.0 mm x 33.7 mm x 172 mm), however weighs almost 1kg. Like standard with most portable hard drives, it comes with software for automatic backups, and security software for encrypting files and folders on the drive. This drive however also comes with sync software, to synchronize between multiple portable drives. All this software comes preloaded on the hard drive, so there is no need for any additional CD’s. Some effort has also gone into making the hard drive more ‘green’; the drive automatically shuts down after a predefined period of inactivity (by default 15 minutes).
